Novice Program

New to outrigger paddling? Welcome to BBOP! Our Novice Program is designed to introduce new paddlers to the fundamentals of outrigger canoeing in a supportive, structured environment.

All new paddlers are required to attend Monday novice practices, unless they have prior outrigger paddling experience. These sessions focus on BBOP club culture, basic technique, safety, logistics, and teamwork, and are the primary entry point into the club.

If you are new and participating in a trial period (not yet a member), you must coordinate your practice schedule directly with the Novice Coaches. New paddlers may attend up to three trial practices before deciding whether to join BBOP as a member.  Novice Coaches will assess each paddler’s readiness and determine when they are prepared to move into Recreational or Competitive practices. This ensures paddlers progress safely and confidently at the right pace.

Once you become a BBOP member, you’ll have access to all club practices as well as Monday Practices. While Monday practices are open to all members, priority is always given to new paddlers to ensure they receive the guidance and space they need.  We’re excited to paddle with you and help you get started. see you on the water!
