Fee includes trailer parking, insurance, light breakfast,  Potluck lunch from BBOP/Kai Pana members, and access to the beer garden (21+).

• $360 per change crew

• $240 per adult crew in iron or short course

• $120 per youth crew (<18 paddler), steers adult allowed

 

CANCELLATIONS:• Must be made on or before August 11, 2024. A 20% fee will be retained from refund forcancellations.• No refunds will be issued after the deadline.

Course & Crew Options (UL and Spec) – see map.

  • Iron-12-mile race course

  • Changeout – 18-mile course; paddlers change out with an escort boat.

    o Adult mixed crews will have a minimum of 5 women

    o Women’s and men’s crews will have 9 paddlers

  • Short course – 5 mi course

  • ​7:30 am: Canoe inspection and rigging

  • 7:30 am: Escort boat crew meeting

  • 8:30 am: Pule; Safety and Steerspersons’ meeting

  • 9:00 am: Short course race start

  • 10:30 am: OC6 Change race start

  • 10:50 am: OC6 Women’s and Mixed iron race start

  • 11:30 am: Beer Garden opens

  • 11:30am: Lunch service begins

  • 1 pm: Men’s OC6 iron race start

  • Approx. 3:00 pm Awards

  • Beer Garden closes/Clean up 5 pm

Race Course & Safety

Important Logistics:

  • Canoe and escort boat permits and on-site aquatic invasive species (AIS) inspections are required for all boats launching at Lake Whatcom. Arrive early and register your canoes before day of race.  Inspection Process & Fees

  • Each escort boat operator, change manager, and other escort boat personnel must register and read, understand, and sign the waiver online by clicking here

  • If you need assistance in borrowing a canoe, you must contact BBOP at sarahtanuvasa@gmail.com. While BBOP/Kai pana will do our best to accommodate your request, specific canoe types are not guaranteed.

  • We are actively looking for local escort boats, but we encourage clubs to recruit their own escort boat. Please contact the tylerirw@protonmail.com for more information about escort boats.


 

Water Safety:

6 PFDs, 2 bailers, and at least 1 whistle per canoe. Crews must be familiar with huli recovery techniques.
